Supporting the next generation of researchers
The University of Otago’s Department of Anatomy Emerging Researchers Group (ERG) plays an important role in supporting postgraduate students and early-career researchers, and we jumped at the opportunity to sponsor the group.
The ERG provides a forum for BSc (Hons), Masters and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff within the Department of Anatomy. Through research seminars, workshops, networking opportunities, and open kōrero, the group aims to strengthen connections across the department while helping members develop valuable research, communication, and career skills.
The group’s programme includes:
- Academic writing
- Science communication
- Teaching
- Wellbeing, and career development
- Regular writing sessions
- Social events designed to foster collaboration and support
“Our group supports and connects postgraduate and other early-career researchers in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Otago,” says co-convener and PhD candidate Kirsten Rutten. “Our events are designed to be low-barrier and inclusive, and funding from Lab Supply allows us to offer catered events that directly advance inclusion by removing the expectation that attendees fund their own participation in professional activities.”
At Lab Supply, we believe that strong science is built on strong communities. By supporting initiatives like the ERG, we continue to be behind New Zealand science, helping create opportunities for emerging researchers to connect, learn, and thrive.
